Seen some stuff worth mentioning lately. Or at least, I feel like mentioning them, so I will, whether they are worthy or not.
So, Just Like Heaven has, I'm pretty sure, drop-kicked all Meg Ryan AND Sandra Bullock rom-coms down my list of favorites by one notch. Well... maybe While You Were Sleeping will hold a Co-Favorite position. Anyway, Just Like Heaven is WONDERFUL!!!!!!! It just made me happy happy happy. No stupid tacked-on Male Lead Becomes a Jerk For No Reason plot devices. It just rocked hard all through. In fact, this male lead was particularly appealing. He does great "takes." You know, the face that says "Wha?" Don't want to say much more than that because of plot twists. Just rent it if you like rom-coms and haven't seen it yet.
The original Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn is still cute, but the passage of time has rendered parts of it a tad creepy. The phrase "It's all in the family" does not make okay the kissing of your brother's date. Just FYI. Can't beat good old Audrey for cute factor, though. One of my favorites.
This one's for the girls. If you've ever wondered what would happen if you threw Jane Austen and Grease in a blender with some nice bright fabrics and some curry powder, Bride and Prejudice is your answer. I loved it. I thought it was a good modernization of the story, first off. The colors are gorgeous, especially if you're a textiles nut like I am. The music ranges from rockin' to corny as heck, but it's just good fun every time. And it's clean as a whistle. Well, maybe one or two S-words, but absolutely no sex - the protagonists don't even kiss at their wedding!
Saw Disney's updated Shaggy Dog. I spent a lot of the exposition rolling my eyes, but once Tim Allen starts in with the dog stuff it gets to be a lot more fun. He does a really good dog impression, frankly. Made me laugh out loud more than once. Here's my problem with the "story," such as it is: it's the same old saw about a dad who's working so hard that it's ruining the whole darn family, and this is somehow only his fault. Nobody minds the money he's bringing in, mind you, and you get the feeling that if he made any less Mrs. Shaggy Dog would have every bit as much to say about that. But again: funny Tim Allen dog impression! Ha ha!
And last, but not least by a long shot, NewsRadio is still freaking hilarious. And is it just me, or did Dave Foley go from adorable little Canuck to creepy old poker guy like overnight?
In other news, Debby is going to have to wait even longer for me to dig up some choir music for her because Joseph discovered he could open - and empty - the boxes full of sheet music.
That is all.
